Darran Goulder at Chew Valley

We’re getting to the end of the Pike season now – but here’s another big predator from last month’s Pike Trials at Chew Valley reservoir, this one caught by Kent’s 2008 Drennan Cup winner and Shimano consultant Darran Goulder.

Darran put in a couple of days at the venue to take over 20 Pike, with the best two fish weighing in at 22lb and 19lb 10oz; both falling to a free-running ledgered Herring presentation incorporating a 3oz lead on a run ring and 65lb PowerPro Braided mainline.  At the business end Darran used size E-Sox Extra Strong Pike Trebles mounted on 34lb E-Sox Super Trace Wire, all delivered out at range to a drop off Darran located, with the aid of a Baitboat and a cargo of chopped fish chunks!
