Overhanging trees are classic features when targeting barbel, but when they’ve just fallen into the river, you’re never quite sure what the fish are going to make of them.
This 20lb 2oz barbel, landed by Berkshire angler, Steven Harvey, certainly didn’t mind, as it was landed in fast flowing water on the upper Thames, right by a tree that’d just been blown in! Feeding nothing, just fishing a single 14mm halibut pellet on a standard hair rig, the fish nearly took Steven’s rod off the rest and gave an amazing fight.
