West Oxfordshire’s Steve Russell with a spectacular 16lb 6oz Barbel from a midlands river last month, braced with a fish of 15lb 1oz on the same day!
Steve tells us he has enjoyed a truly staggering season so far, these being his 2nd and 3rd different Barbel over 15lb – and coming after he caught an 11lb 13oz Tench in June – which topped a mind-blowing catch of 4 double figure Tench in a single day!
Steve used a CC Moore’s paste wrapped hookbait, and very cleverly decided to use a different hooklength material and rig to the norm. Carp Silk has an ultra soft silky feel which means it can be very difficult for big, wary fish to detect – especially where they have become used to harsh coated braid hooklengths. It is woven with a combination of heavy filaments so that it will lay gently against the bottom without the use of putty etc!
