Over the last few weeks Simon Ashton has enjoyed some superb, big perch action, landing a string of fish over the 4lb mark, topped by this 4lb 8oz UK personal best.
He’d seen fish smashing fry in the margins and suspected perch were the culprits and started out by fishing lures. However, he was pestered by pike, with his target species remaining elusive.
Simon switched tactic, this time trying a small piece of float-fished prawn, and at 5:30pm – the same time as he’s had success previously – his float sailed away and connected with what was clearly no pike. Simon was delighted to land such a sergeant so early in his campaign and is hoping to catch an even bigger one over the coming months.
