On one of his last trips fishing the River Lea, lure fanatic Darrell Carter finished in style when he managed this personal best perch, weighing 4lb 10oz.
He told us “After 15 years on the Lea I’m moving back to Shropshire and thought it’d be nice to go out on a high. Arriving at first light, I hadn’t had much success fishing with a crankbait, so I changed to a crayfish imitation and soon connected with the heavy fish. At first, I thought it was a pike, but was amazed to see this huge perch appear. What a way to go out!”
