Having seen a huge perch follow his lure on a trip to the Grand Union Canal, a change of tactic fooled this 4lb 8oz perch for Marek Nieweglowski. He’d walked the bank for several hours without any luck, but after casting a 7cm craw in the clear water, he saw a big perch follow it but miss at the last minute.
In shock, he kept casting to the same spot, but with no action, he switched lure, one that works enticingly along the deck. Retrieving it very slowly, Marek’s rod hooped round, and he knew right away he was into the same big perch. Steering it away from beneath a barge, he managed to slip the beast into the waiting net.
