Chris Vandervleit scored back-to-back wins over the Bank Holiday weekend on two different venues.

The well respected southern match ace kicked things off with a level 65lb win at Hertfordshire’s Willows Lakes, consisting of 30lb of bream and 35lb of carp on the short-range feeder.

“I threw 10 balls of Bait-Tech F1 groundbait 20 yards out, laced with worms and casters, then fished a small Gripmesh Feeder filled with the same mix over the top,” he explained. “I used a 0.16mm hooklength to a size 16 Kamasan B911 hook with a 10ft Ultralight Bomb rod. Redworms and dead red maggots were both used on the hook.”

The next day, Chris put a very impressive 125lb 12oz all-silverfish catch on the scales at Essex’s Lake John Fishery. “I caught on the short pole, up and down the near shelf, again using my favourite chopped worm and casters,” he explained. “I used 0.4g and 0.5g AS1 floats to 0.12mm hooklengths, size 16 Silverfish Match hooks and green 6-8 Carp Bungee elastic. The groundbait this time was Bait-Tech Special G Gold and Green, again with dead reds and redworms on the hook.

“Lake John is a really special place for big weights of silvers. I had a mix of bream, skimmers, perch, roach to 1lb, hybrids to 2lb and a single 4lb tench in my catch!”
