Some of the best match anglers from England and France are competing at White Acres this weekend, including World Champion’s such as Alan Scotthorne, William Raison and Didier Dellanoy.

This is the second year that the Drennan Rive Silverfish Festival is being held at the fantastic White Acres Holiday Park near Newquay, Cornwall. This is a really friendly two-day event with over 80 anglers invited to fish on behalf of the joint hosts, Drennan International and Rive, including 20 anglers from France.

The format is very simple. Float only, with a pole limit of 13 metres and no bait limits. It is a silverfish-only event, so no carp, crucians or F1s will count. The lakes used include Pollawyn, Jennys, Twin Oaks, Trelawney, Python, Sycamore and Acorn, which will offer some really diverse fishing.

The best baits should be casters, maggots and chopped worms, with pinkies figuring in the harder areas. For some anglers it should be a straightforward bagging session while others may have to work out a way of catching silverfish and not the meddlesome carp!

Last year we witnessed plenty of all-roach weights of over 20lb, plus some even bigger nets of bream and skimmers. Quality perch, tench and even a few bonus barbel figured in catches. Last year’s victor was Drennan Team England new recruit and Kamasan Starlets team man Cameron Hughes with a perfect two section wins and two match wins from the fancied High Bank of Pollawyn. His total weight was a staggering 112lb! That was followed by fellow England team member and Drennan Barnsley Blacks’ Matt Godfrey who also scored two perfect section wins from Jennys and a total weight of 86lb.

This year the anglers will be drawing zones on Day One, which means they are guaranteed to fish two different lakes. There will also be an added team prize with a random draw that will include one angler from France in each team.

It promises to be a great event fished in good spirits. We will keep you posted!
