This excellent picture shows a surprise Yorkshire river Tench caught by Mike Welsh from the River Swale.  Mike has been doing very well for Barbel & Chub recently, and after catching a few small Perch, Gudgeon and some huge Bleak his Fox 1.75lb Barbel rod wrapped round as the Tench took the bait – leading to one of his favourite fish of the season to date going in the landing net!

Mike laid down a bed of half-a-pint of maggots with a baitdropper, and then fished a size 16 hook baited with double red maggot over the top, on an 8lb  Double Strength hooklength to 12lb Supplex mainline.
