Steve Rowley’s Cotswold Water Park Tench

This fantastic action shot comes courtesy of ace Gloucestershire Pike angler Steve Rowley – seen here playing a quality Cotswold Water Park Tench on a Drennan 13ft Compact Tench Float rod.  Although we haven’t had much heat yet this Spring, if you can find the fish they’re often catchable, Despite the low temperatures for May and even on the float – as Steve is seen here very ably demonstrating.

Although one of our most powerful float rods, the compact Tench Float still has a forgiving tip action which cushions against the risk of hook pulls.  This feature is nicely illustrated here in this exciting photo with Steve’s rod hooped right over as a hard fighting gravel pit Tench scraps for freedom!  Steve has been teaming the rod with a Drennan FD 4000 reel and 6lb Supplex mainline.

Baiting up the deepest part of the lake with pellet and red maggots has produced a number of early season tinca’s, but strangely enough, none of the bigger girls have turned up yet.

“I have had quite a few fish around the four and half to five pound mark, and a disproportionate number of males, which is a little strange” said Steve. “But there is still plenty of time for the double figure fish to turn up. I am trying to catch my first double figure tench on float leger tactics, and hopefully I can achieve this in the next three or four weeks”.
