Simon Baker 17lb 3oz Barbel

After a successful start to the season targeting chub on the Thames, London angler Simon Baker, turned his attention to the river’s barbel

Arriving for a social with a good friend, he fed half a jar of hemp and a kilo of broken boilies with a bait dropper and let the swim rest for a few hours whilst they had some food and relaxed.

An hour after casting out he had a few liners, and soon after his left-hand rod was away with an 11lb fish. Recasting with a homemade boilie, his upstream rod was soon away, with this fish staying very deep and feeling powerful. When it popped-up, he knew it was something special and slid the net under what turned out to be a 17lb 3oz PB.

Well done Simon!
