With many rivers being out of action this winter due to flooding and the colour of chocolate, Simon Ashton headed north to Scotland in search of some big Grayling.

Whilst the roads were treacherous, temps reaching as low as minus 7 and snow flying everywhere, Simon was determined and unsurprising when he arrived, there was not a soul on the river. Armed with his Acolyte Specimen 13’, centrepin filled with 4.4lb Float Fish down to a 6g Titanium Trotter and his trusted Specialist XT Maggot hook, he made his first few trots through which resulted in a few to the 2lb mark. Once the sun came out, bites slowed so a quick spritz of Hinders Betalin Liquid Gold boosted things. Then, just like magic a 2lb 2oz was in his net before the biggest prize of all, the next trot down a proper giant of 3lb 6oz was laying at the bottom of his net. A new personal best!
Well done Simon!
