sport-fishing-WC-2014The England Veterans squad managed a valiant silver medal in the Veterans World Championship, behind host nation Italy at the weekend.

The two-day event was fished on the River Tiber in Rome and saw the Italians retain their title from last year with a 35-point total. Despite England winning the second day of the event they still found themselves just two points adrift of the winners with a 37-point total.

Switzerland’s Jacky Belliard won individual gold with 3 points. After winning Day One outright, Drennan’s Roger Marlow found the second day slightly tougher and just missed out on a medal to finish in 4th place on 6 points. His team mate, Terry Lancaster, also scored the same points, but finished in 7th place on weight countback.

The England Disabled team really found the going difficult in their World Championship fished on the same venue to end up in 9th place out of the 10 competing nations. Hungary were crowned deserving champions with 31 points ahead of the Czech Republic on 36 and Croatia on 37. Hungary also claimed the individual gold with Gyula Gurisatti.
