Ryan Hayden 5lb 1oz Perch

When targeting large, pressured perch on big reservoirs, many anglers report that making the most of short feeding windows is critical to success.

On a recent trip to one such water, Ryan Hayden certainly did that when he landed this fish of 5lb 1oz alongside others of 4lb 3oz and 3lb 11oz, all in the space of 30-minutes.

Having hit the water early to reach the hot spot before other anglers, Ryan located the fish and could see they were active and moving around, which gave him hope of a few bites. For the first hour of the session, he caught nothing, but eventually the fish switched on, and in a memorable half-hour spell he landed the trip of huge fish.

After that, he didn’t have another take! Whilst it’s hard to be sure on why the fish suddenly switch on, Ryan believes it could be down to light levels at certain periods of the day. Dropshot tactics tempted the fish, with a small 7cm bait producing.

Well done Ryan!
