Matthew Fernandez from Southampton managed to squeeze in a short two-hour session after work on the River Itchen and managed to land several roach to 1lb 4oz.

Matthew traveled light, taking only a net, a pint of maggots, a pocket full of tackle and his 13ft Acolyte Ultra float rod tackled up with a simple trotting outfit. His setup consisted of a 3BB Wire Avon, bulk shotted with No4s and completed with a size 20 Super Specialist hook tied directly onto his 3lb 2oz Float Fish mainline. Edging the float along a crease directly behind a large snag on the far bank produced all of the bites for Matthew, with a single white maggot being the best hookbait option.
