Coventry’s famous specimen hunter Phil Smith has sent us some lovely photos of Spanish Roach like this beauty from the River Ebro, taking fish to 2lb 8oz during a recent trip.

Phil used his Drennan Medium Feeder 11ft 6in to 13ft combo rod (at maximum length) – which was useful to help keep the rods out of the rocks in the nearside bank.  Terminal tackle included a 35gm Stainless Oval Cage Feeder to either size 10 Wide Gape Specialist or Kamasan B980 hooks on a 4lb Fluorocarbon hooklengths.

Phil also had a go for the big carp, and was delighted to catch a new personal best Common of 44lb 14oz!
