Roach expert, Dr Mark Everard, had a great end to the river fishing season, landed this 2lb 12oz roach from a Wessex River on quiver tipped bread flake.
Finding the venue with coloured water and extra pace, he chose to cast upstream to a slack. Soon after, he had a slow pull on the tip of his 1980’2 Silstar quiver rod and connected with a fish that fought well in the current, kicking and kiting. After landing it, he suspected the fish would go close to 3lb, but at 2lb 12oz, he was far from disappointed.
A 15g feeder filled with liquidised bread was enough to hold bottom, and his hook bait sat perfectly on a size 12 hook.
