Marina Mouth Magic For Steve Hemingray

Kamasan Starlets scored a fantastic team win in the two-day Angling Trust Team Champs Final last weekend. Squad member Steve Hemingray managed to win Day One individually with a great performance on the Stainforth & Keadby Canal. Here’s how he did it:

For Day One of the Winter League Final on the Stainforth & Keadby Canal I drew peg 190 on the marina mouth.

I started off by feeding 8m and 14m lines with Sensas Canal Fine Noire, Lake and damp leam (60% leam, 40% groundbait). To this I added 250ml of joker and dead pinkies, feeding 6 balls on each line. A 16m line was also fed with chop worm and caster. I also had a feeder line into the mouth of the marina at about 25m.

At the start I went straight out to 16m with worm hook bait and caught skimmers and bream up to 3lb immediately. After about 1/2 hour it went quiet so I refed with worms and casters and had a chuck on the feeder. Here I had a bream of about 2lb followed by two others before it went dead.

I then spent the next hour swapping between these two far lines picking off odd skimmers and bream.

Two hours in, both these lines had gone dead with just the odd small perch to be caught. At this point I switched to the 14m bloodworm line where I caught skimmers and ‘pommies’ up to 12oz. By topping up regularly with double leam and joker I managed to catch these right to the end. This helped me to finish with 18kg, a section win and also enough for an individual win on the day.

Steve’s Winning Tackle:

My 16m chop worm line was fished with a 1g G Tip 2 with a 0.12mm Double Strength hooklength to a size 16 B611 hook. An Ultralight Bomb rod was used with a small cage feeder and 5lb Specimen Plus main line to a 0.12mm Double Strength hooklength and a 16 B560 hook.
