The end of the river season is known as the time to catch something special, as Daniel Farenden proved when he landed this perch of 4lb 15oz on the final day.
Targeting a stretch of the Thames that gave him the chance of something special, he settled in a corner where there was a bit of slack water and fished a roach livebait on a float paternoster rig. After landing a surprise 18lb pike, he recast and saw the float bob twice before sliding off.
Striking, he knew from the fight that he hadn’t hooked a pike, and a few moments later, a huge perch was scooped. At 4lb 15oz, it’s Daniel’s PB and, in his own words, a fish he’ll ‘probably never better’.
