Liam Willis 19lb 10oz Barbel

At the end of the season, Liam Willis booked the last week of work off and travelled to the Trent at Gunthorpe. Settling in an area he’s had big barbel from in the past, with the river dropping, he introduced hemp, pellets and boilies, and topped up every eight hours to stir the barbel into feeding.

By the third day of his trip, he had only managed a few small fish, but in gale force winds and rain he stuck to the plan and introduced a few more kilos of his mix. Not long later, Liam had a take on flavoured luncheon meat, and after a powerful fight in the main flow, he slipped the net under a fish that’ size blew him away. It weighed 19lb 10oz and beats his previous PB by nearly 1lb 10oz.

Well done Liam!
