Kane Hammond, Chub Haul-7.12, 7.6, 7.5, 7.4 and 7.3lb

One of the greatest hauls of big chub in angling history has just been taken, with 18-year-old Kane Hammond landing five seven-pounders, four ‘sixes’, and a brace of ‘fives’, all on the float.

Targeting the Dorset Stour, Kane found the river running with extra water and slight colour. Usually, he just fishes maggot and hemp, but this time decided to add liquidised bread to pull more fish into his swim in the murkier water. Fishing a smooth gravel run in 5ft of water two-thirds of the way across, he trotted a 6.4g loafer float, shotted with a 6g olivette on 4lb line. A barbless size 20 held his maggot hookbait, and within 15 minutes, he landed his first of the session – a 4lb 9oz specimen. He was soon into larger fish, and landed chub of 7lb 12oz, 7lb 6oz, 7lb 5oz, 7lb 4oz, and 7lb 3oz.

. These combined with his ‘sixes’ and a few smaller fish. This resulted in Kane ending his five-hour session with over 8lb of chub, averaging 6lb 3oz. The haul caps a fantastic winter for Kane, where he’s landed 24 chevins over the six-pound mark.
Well done Kane!!!
