This superb photo shows Drennan’s East-region Sales Agent, Julien Watson, enjoying himself with a brand new Acolyte Ultra 15ft rod last weekend – here seen playing a large and angry carp!

Julien visited one of his local Suffolk stillwaters, and sent us the following little account:

“I couldn’t resist having a play with the new 15ft Acolyte on Monday and took my wife to a local Suffolk day ticket venue we discovered a few weeks ago. There are loads of brilliantly conditioned silver fish and a reasonable head of mixed carp, friendly owners and bailiff and no daft rules, perfect for a few hours fun.

I’ve always liked fishing a long rod and a pole float set up ‘whip style’ with the back-up of a properly set drag (in the event of a lump turning up) and Monday afternoon it worked out perfect! Simple double red maggot on an AS1 pole rig, 5lb Supplex and a swim with a small set of pads to my left, I fed maggot and a bit of groundbait beside the pads and some pellet and corn down the edge.

The end result was a load of roach, rudd, perch, crucians and baby barbel, plus four bonus carp to just over 8lb! The rod is simply AMAZING and handled the bonus fish brilliantly!”
