John beat the river record, set by him with a capture of the same fish back in the Autumn, by 4oz. Incredibly it’s the 3rd time over the years that the fish has taken John’s bait.
Capitalising on the recent mild spell when the river was fining down after flooding, John prepared some groundbait balls with hemp, pellets and boilies – and fished a pair of hair-rigged 14mm pellets on a size 6 Super Specialist hook over the top.
”I thought it was a Chub and then it ripped 30 yards of line off my reel. To set a new personal best is the best start to the year I could have possibly wished for” explained John.
