Jamie Ryan 32lb 4oz Pike

This season, Jamie Ryan and a friend planned to target some of Ireland’s legendary pike waters, and on one of their first trips, Jamie landed this specimen of 32lb 4oz.

Having set off early with two rods each, a bucket of lures and some energy drinks, the pair headed for a weedy bay that ‘screamed’ pike.

Making a few passes over the area, Jamie cast a Miuras Mouse Magnum lure, a foot-long pattern that resembles a cross between a big soft plastic and a bushy pike fly. Within 30 minutes, Jamie’s rod buckled over as he felt mighty head shakes through the blank. The fish surfaced 15 metres from the boat, slashing the air with its large tail, and Jamie said a prayer as it edged slowly towards the net. Once landed, he stood in silence, staring in awe at the huge fish. Measuring 118cm and weighing 32lb 4oz, it was a phenomenal way to start his winter campaign.

Well done Jamie!
