Over the last decade, James Chapkin has fished for perch on the River Lea, with this recent 4lb 12oz specimen the highlight.

It’s James’ PB and was caught during a short morning session towards the end of the season in which he fished lobworms on quivertip tackle and fed broken lobs and red maggots.
At around 7.30am, James had a delicate pluck on the tip which was followed by a slow pull round. Striking, James immediately realised that he’d hooked something big and played the fish carefully on his light tackle. As it rose from the depths, James quickly netted it, and once on the mat, he was in complete awe. After slipping the fish back, James managed another perch of 4lb 3oz, completing a memorable brace.
Well done James!
