Graham Stevens 11lb 12oz Tench

After a challenging spring’s tench fishing, everything came good for Graham Stevens when he landed this 11lb 12oz fish.

He had arrived at a southern stillwater on a Friday night, but with only a few swims remaining, had restricted options. Graham settled into the last spot on a bank where the wind had blown for some time, but with it now swinging away, he was unsure whether to look elsewhere. However, a glance at his old contour map of the lake revealed a few features in his swim, which filled him with confidence.

Next morning, Graham saw a fish roll and located a spot where the depth rises to around 10ft with 15ft around it, and baited with particles, pellets, maggots and a handful of corn. Over the top, he regularly cast feeders – one filled with groundbait, the other maggots – and on the Sunday he hooked a powerful fish on a four-maggot hookbait, presented heli-style. Initially, he thought it might be a small carp but was delighted when the new PB rolled over the net.

Well done Graham!
