George Shorten 5lb 4oz Perch

After an unsuccessful last few winters fishing rivers, George Shorten turned his attention to a large reservoir, home to huge perch. Having agreed a date to visit with a friend, their arrival coincided with overcast conditions and south westerly winds, although levels remained low after our dry summer.

The day passed almost without activity for George, but an hour before they had to head back, he felt a hard thud on the rod tip as his 7cm shad fished on a dropshot rig was taken. The fish stripped line from his reel, making George wonder if he’d hooked a pike. But after a short fight, the big perch surfaced. At 5lb 4oz, it was a superb result on his only bite of the day and certainly made the long drive home easier!

Well done George!
