Sussex specimen angler Gareth Evans with a monster Perch weighing 4lb 10oz, winning a weekly Drennan Cup award in Angling Times this week!
Fishing a commercial type water in his home county, Gareth achieved success by feeding very heavily and wading through carp – until his target big Stripy turned up in the late afternoon. The fish was fooled into taking a hair-rigged King Prawn presented on a simple running leger rig comprising a Swivel Stop bead and 5.6lb 0.20mm Series 7 Carp & Silverfish Mono. A baited area was prepared with loose-fed Prawns and then red maggots were sprayed regularly through the session.
The fish put up a very weighty, powerful fight deep in the water, throwing up a couple of huge carp style boils before popping up to the surface. One last deep lunge and it was in the net! For the full story of the capture check out this week’s issue of Angling Times.
“The Series 7 line is all I ever use for 3-6lb line class fishing now, it’s fantastic stuff – supple, strong and unobtrusive in the water, especially in coloured commercials” reported Gareth.
