Dave Roberts 17lb 14oz barbel

Despite some much-needed rain hitting the UK, the River Trent is still running low, so on a recent trip to the Trent at Gunthorpe, Dave Roberts dropped his hookbait size to catch produced this 17lb 14oz barbel.

He presented a 12mm boilie on a size 12 hook to tempt the largest fish landed from the stretch this year. Interestingly, it’s a ‘new’ fish to the stretch, that appears to have moved in from elsewhere on the river this season. Just fishing for the day, Dave landed six fish in total that session including one of 11lb 6oz.

When he hooked the seventeen-pounder, the fish held deep and used its weight to full advantage. Dave hoped he hadn’t hooked one of the stretch’s carp and was pleased to see a big barbel surface in the foamy water.

Well done Dave!
