When he headed for 48 hours at the Shropshire crucian Mecca of Sutton Pool, Dave Owen hoped to beat his PB of 3lb 6oz..
Dave targeted spots that are normally overlooked and tried a few slightly unusual rigs for the species. On one of his three rods, Dave deployed the popular Method feeder, but his other two were rigged with scaled down carp tackle, incorporating small lead clips, tubing 1.5oz leads and three-inch coated braid hooklinks. It was to one of the latter rigs that his four-pounder fell.
His hookbaits on these were an 8mm wafter on one and a single grain of maize on the other. Both were finished off with a small mesh PVA stick and were fished over a ‘Jaffa’ of groundbait and 20 grains of corn, which he introduced each cast.
Well done Dave!
