Damian Archer 16lb 2oz and 12lb Barbel

On a trip to the River Itchen, Damian Archer enjoyed a remarkable spell of action during which he landed barbel of 16lb 2oz and 12lb exactly in less than an hour’s fishing!

Prior to the session he’d kept a close eye on the weather forecast, and with heavy rain falling, he knew that he had the chance of a result.

After a wet day at work, Damian arrived at around 3pm. The rain hammered down, but the river looked in good for a bite. Fishing a feeder filled with maggots and a large lump of luncheon meat on the hook, he was into a fish after 30 minutes. Following a powerful fight in the coloured water, he scooped a large barbel.

The specimen weighed 16lb 2oz and Damian called a mate who lives nearby to come down and take a few pictures. As he rested that fish in the net, Damian made another quick cast and, in no time, hooked another barbel, this one weighing 12lb exactly.

With his friend arriving just as that one was landed, a chance arose for a memorable brace shot to be captured.

Well done Damian!
