Chris Vandervleit is through to the Maver Match This Final after winning the latest qualifier at Barston Lakes.

On a tough day where most of the 97-strong field struggled, the Drennan and Bait-Tech ace managed an impressive 116lb 10oz using his trademark ‘tea bag’ tactics.

Chris relied on casting a PVA bag full of 2mm and 4mm pellets around 70 yards with a hair-rigged 8mm white boilie on the hook.

He managed four big carp to 15lb plus over 50lb of smaller carp, F1s and bream. A 13lb 8oz carp on his last cast proved vital, as second place was Jamie Hawkins with 109lb on the Method feeder from Peg 21.

Chris used a 12in 0.20mm Supplex hooklength to a size 12 Kamasan B911 Extra Strong hook. His main line was 6lb Feeder & Method Mono to an 8lb shock leader of the same material. A 12ft Drennan Matchpro Super Feeder was ideal for punching out his 1.5oz bomb and PVA bag setup.

Chris now goes through to the prestigious Maver Mega Match This Grand Final where the winner will pick up at least £50,000!
