Martin Bowler

LIVES: Wiltshire

OCCUPATION: Professional Angler

TOP ACHIEVEMENTS: Making a TV series for Channel 4 called Catching The Impossible, writing 3 books on my fishing life, keeping a weekly Angling Times column going for over a decade and still enjoying every moment on the bank

BIGGEST FISH:  A giant blue-fin tuna of over 450lbs, measuring 93 inches in length. Biggest freshwater fish is a mirror carp of 72lbs.

BEST CATCH: With 2 British records, the crucian and the barbel, I guess I should say these, however, a 5lb 4oz perch on the pole for Catching The Impossible takes some beating! On the marine front, becoming the 2nd man ever to catch 5 species over 100lbs from around the British Isles, is an achievement I am proud of.

FAVOURITE METHODS: I don't have one - I enjoy learning and deploying every tactic so whatever suits the day!

FAVOURITE VENUES: The British Isles takes some beating for its diversity but if you had to pin me down on one location it would have to be the river Wye.

ANGLING AMBITIONS: Catch a salmon over 25lbs, a 6th marine species over 100lbs and keep my love for coarse fishing burning!

ABOUT: I have been a professional angler since my late 20s and have been in the very privileged position of learning from some of the legends of our sport.  Angling fills most of my work and spare time but I do enjoy spending time with my family in Wiltshire which consists of my understanding wife Jo, my son Ryan and my step-children Todd and Natalie and 3 monster rottweilers!  I like going to the cinema and this is probably the only time that I'm not thinking about fish. For the future, if the next 20 years is as good as the last I will be more than happy.
