On just his third session of the river season, Andy Waters landed the rudd of a lifetime in the shape of this 3lb 10oz specimen.
The Suffolk angler embarked on a 180-mile round trip to the Fens, where he was greeted by a river that the weed cutters had recently gone through, which made his trotting approach challenging due to debris on the surface. With little in the way of fish showing, Andy fired out small chunks of bread to try and locate the fish and eventually saw a couple of good swirls.
Casting out, he trotted his bread down as far he dared before seeing a big swirl and striking into a good fish. It thumped violently in the steady flow, holding deep as it tried to rid his hook in the weeds. When a huge-framed fish surfaced, Andy’s legs went to jelly, but he kept his cool and slid it into the net. At 3lb 10oz it’s how new PB, and after landing it, he decided to head straight home, smiling all the way.
Well done Andy!
