Alex Mason 26lb 14oz Pike

The fly is becoming an increasingly popular tactic for targeting pike, and it’s easy to see why when specimens like this 31lb 6oz fish are falling to the tactic!

It was caught by Alex Mason from Blagdon Lake in bright and calm conditions.
Alex used a relatively small fly, around five inches in size, which he fished on a sinking line to help it get down to the fish. Immediately after hooking it, the fish set off on two powerful runs and went under the boat, with Alex having to dive to the opposite side to ensure it didn’t go around the engine. He and his boat partner, Robbie Northman, landed two other fish over the 20lb mark, with Robbie’s highlight a 26lb 14oz specimen, also landed on the fly.

Well done Alex!
