A change of stretch proved productive for Alan Ibbotson, who landed this 18lb 4oz lovely barbel from the River Trent at the back end of the season.
He headed to an area he knows has good form for the species and, just 10 minutes after starting, had landed a low ‘double’. Soon after he received a massive drop back bite and hooked a fish that put up a powerful fight, making Alan wonder if he’d hooked a carp.
A 20mm boilie fished on a simple hair rig was his winning hookbait.
