Having seen tench regularly rolling in an area of a 50-acre gravel pit on the Leicestershire border, Rhys Barkby decided to target the species in the area and was rewarded with this fish of 11lb 2oz, plus another ten-pounder.
Targeting the back of a weedbed at range in 10ft of water, Rhys fed a large bed of pellets, corn and chopped boilies and fished a 10mm yellow boilie over the top on a simple hair rig.
His first bite came at 9am from the ‘smaller’ specimen, and at 10:30am, his rod screamed off again. The fish put up a powerful fight, taking 20 yards of line and arcing his barbel rod into full battle-curve. Once in the net, he was amazed to see what was a new PB.
