Arriving at the water for a 48-hour session, he began by spombing a mixture of hemp, casters and groundbait on a clear spot 40 yards out, over which he regulalrly cast maggot feeders. These were set up with heli rigs, using three-inch hooklinks and double red maggot hookbaits, which he popped up with a bit of red foam.

Nigel only had to wait a couple of hours for his first bite, which was from a 2lb 4oz rudd. But he went one better with his next fish as the 3lb 4oz specimen came to the net.

It’s a fish that Nigel was delighted with having been in search of a three-pounder for a few years. Come the end of the session, Nigel had landed six rudd over the 2lb mark and made the long drive back to his home in Dorset with a big smile on his face.
