After finding a spot on a Midlands stillwater where there was far-bank cover and newly forming lily pads, providing the sanctuary that the rudd crave, Adam fished short of the pads, hoping to pick the mole fish off as they patrolled the area. Using light plastic-framed cage feeders and small pop-ups on heli rigs, he got off to a great start, landing a few big ‘twos’ on his first session.

Returning a few days later, a few tench muscled in on the action and tested his light feeder kit, before he had a stuttering take and lifted into what he knew was a large rudd. As it neared the net, Adam held his breath as it slid into the waiting net. The fish dwarfed the others he had landed, and at 3lb 5oz, it was a new PB.
