Toby Searl 3lb 1oz Roach

With the rivers out of sorts in late Feb, Toby Searl decided to try and catch a stillwater roach over 2lb, and did so in style, landing a fish of 2lb 10oz that was soon followed by this 3lb 1oz specimen.

Having driven for four hours to a water known to contain fish of his target size, Toby did a lap of the venue and found a few fish topping in a corner, so he set up there. Fishing a maggot feeder with three red maggots on a size 12 hook, Toby began to catch after two hours’ fishing.

After landing a few fish over the 1lb mark, he was delighted to slip the net under the fish of 2lb 10oz – a PB and a specimen that made the long drive worthwhile. The best was yet to come though, as the next evening when he was getting ready to pack up, Toby received a drop-back bite and lifted into a fish that gave heavy head shakes. Once in the net, he knew it was bigger than any roach he’d landed previously, and it proved to be just that and the second PB of his trip at 3lb 1oz.

Well done Toby!
