Jonathan Holdsworth 17lb 15oz Zander

With the River Trent carrying extra water, Jonathan Holdsworth has enjoyed a phenomenal spell of zander fishing, landing this specimen of 17lb 15oz alongside numerous other huge fish.

Fishing during the hours of darkness, Johathan has noticed that the zander have recently moved into a certain area of the river.

After a few sessions in which he received a few taps on the lure, he began to have positive takes as the fish fed with increasing confidence. Using a 14cm UV shad retrieved ‘low and slow’ along the riverbed, Jonathan has landed numerous double-figure fish over the space of a week, capped by the seventeen-pounder. Amazingly, when he hooked that fish, he thought he’d connected with a perch, as it hardly put up a fight at all. So, when his friend netted it and told Jonathan that he’d caught a massive zander, he was blown away. The fish measured 88cm and was, a few days later, followed by another of 16lb 2oz.

Well done Jonathan!
