Christopher Mendelsohn 15lb 10oz Barbel

Over recent years, Leicestershire angler Jarrad Smith has spent a lot of time on a challenging stretch of the middle Trent, but his efforts have just been rewarded in spectacular style with this 19lb 8oz barbel.

A river in full flood isn’t what many predator anglers want to see, but if there’s one species that can be relied upon in the conditions, it’s the zander.

The species are coloured-water specialists, which is a fact that Christopher Mendelsohn recently took full advantage of on the River Trent, when he landed this 15lb 10oz PB after finding the river carrying lots of extra water.

Fishing a roach deadbait on a long wire trace, Christopher cast to a bit of slack water using a 4oz flat pear lead. After landing three zander between 3-8lb, he hooked into something in an altogether different league, with the fish putting up a great fight in the heavy flow.

Well done Christopher!
