Although reservoirs have produced the largest perch in the UK this season, for Adam Jones, the pursuit of a large river fish is the ultimate goal.

On a recent session to the Thames, he caught just such a fish when he slipped the net under this specimen of 4lb 8oz. It measured 49cm in length and is his third biggest UK perch. Adam noted that, when the fish rolled on the surface, the sight brings back memories of fishing the upper Thames when he was a child, and would catch perch of around 1lb that were huge to him at the time.
The fish fell to a Zman TRD lure – a soft plastic pattern that’s worked along the riverbed – and kicked off a great campaign for Adam. Whilst the specimen already satisfies his quest for a big perch this year, he’ll still be out there searching for an elusive five-pounder from a UK river.
Well done Adam!
