Having arrived at Bob’s Island fishery on the River Trent, Matthew Green’s session didn’t get off to the best of starts, when he found the swim he had planned to fish occupied. Having a good look along the stretch, he settled in a swim where there are trees on the far bank and a crease a few feet off them.

Fishing a feeder packed with Dynamite Baits Meat-Furter groundbait and pellets alongside hookbait of matching flavour, he cast to the crease and also fired a few pellets over the spot at regular intervals. It wasn’t long before he had a take, with the barbel powering around in the flow for over 10 minutes. Once in the net, Matthew let the barbel rest before lifting it onto his unhooking mat. At 17lb 12oz and in immaculate conditions, it’s the fish of his lifetime.
Well done Matthew!
