Although predator season on the UK’s big reservoirs hasn’t been open for long, Grafham is already producing huge perch week after week. Martyn Reed has just landed the biggest reported so far this season, in the shape of this 5lb 6oz specimen. Amazingly, it was caught on his very first trip to the midlands venue!

Although, he was made to wait on the day, having struggled to locate the bulk of the fish and landing only one small trout by 4pm. Martyn’s fortunes changed though when he found some fish by Grafham’s famous water tower and, on just his second cast, hooked a fish that made deep and powerful runs. The fight was like nothing he’d experienced from a perch, and Martyn was convinced that he’d hooked a different predatory species. So, when this huge perch surfaced, he was in shock! Micro lures fished on dropshot rigs did the trick on the day.
Well done Martyn!
