Daniel Bouskila 3lb 5oz Grayling

Grayling are best known as a winter species, but Essex angler Daniel Bouskila is proving that specimens can be caught in warmer weather too, after he landed this 3lb 5oz fish from a southern chalk stream.

Fishing on a hot day on a weedy waterway, Daniel targeted clear runs with nymphing tactics. As the day wore on, he only had trout to show for his efforts. As 2pm neared, he and his friend Tom made their way back to the cars, ready for a cold pint at the pub. However, they couldn’t resist a few casts as they walked back. Daniel focussed on an run by a far bank bush, and having run his fly through numerous times, had almost given up on his chance of a grayling when he was shocked by a powerful hit on the rod. The fish charged for the far bank, but by submerging the rod he managed to steer it into the waiting net.

Well done Daniel!
