Targeting Fenland river, Stephen opted for boilie tactics and fished a 12mm Scopex Squid pop-up about four inches off bottom over a bed of matching bottom baits.

Stephen’s found that outside the dawn and dusk feeding windows, in which more typical bread tactics produce, boilies are incredibly effective for tempting big rudd, and in numbers too. He had the take at 3am, with the powerful fish surging for heavy weed. But Stephens tackle and nerve held, as he steered the specimen to the net.
