Lee McManus 18lb 1oz Bream

A swim move paid off in style for former Drennan Cup champion Lee McManus, with five bream coming to the net capped by specimens of 18lb 1oz and 17lb 8oz.

He was fishing a midlands pit where he’s had a good run of results since early March, landing 11 fish so far. Lee started in an area he’d had success in previously, but when woke up after the first night and saw the wind blowing into a corner around 900 yards away, he went to have a look.

Upon reaching the spot, Lee knew right away that he had to make a move, with the area ‘screaming’ bream. Just two hours after casting out he had his first take from a fish of around 13lb, which was followed by two others of similar size.

At first light the next morning, Lee had just made a cup of tea and put one foot out of his bivvy when the bobbin on one of his rods dropped to the floor. That turned out to be this 18lb 1oz fish, which was followed by the 17lb 8oz specimen just as he was packing up. Artificial corn hookbaits did the trick, fished over small amounts of particle 100 yards out.

Well done Lee!
