2017 Angling Trust Oxford Winter League – Round 5

The fifth round of the Angling Trust Oxford Winter League was fished by 6 teams of 8 on the Kennet and Avon canal between Hungerford and Froxfield.

With a gin clear canal and overnight frosts, there were fears that the canal would be very hard, but despite the conditions, it fished exceptionally well with 5lb needed to win each section.

With one round remaining, both Drennan Oxford Blue and Aqua teams look set to qualify for the winter league final to be fished on the Fenland drains and Decoy lakes in February.

Individual Results

1st: Dean Barlow (Drennan Blue) – 10lb 1oz.

“End pegs are always a big bonus, so I was delighted when I pulled out an end peg from the draw bag! The canal fished really well considering the conditions and I had a great day catching roach along with some big perch on double caster to finish with a weight of 10lb 1oz. Just enough to win the match and helped my team win on the day too. The most productive rig was 0.1 AS1 with a 14 or 16 B512 hook to a 0.10 Supplex Fluorocarbon hook length.”

2nd: Geoff Lewendon (Drennan Aqua) – 9lb 11oz. Geoff also caught quality perch on pole fishing worm over chopped worm and caster.

3rd: Martin Wickens (Drennan Aqua) – 8lb 1oz. Martin also caught quality perch on pole fished worm to take third place.

4th: James Andrews (Sensas A4) – 7lb 7oz
